The Werner Shuna Carbon is a premium touring paddle, designed for those who want mid-sized power for strokes in all directions. The perfect paddle for the coastal play environment, or for those who want a conservative feel through the water to make the miles pass easily.
A great all-round touring and sea kayak paddle with a nice size blade for longer trips along the coast. The smaller blade size reduces the fatigue that can come with a larger paddle, alowing you to go further and see more.
The carbon blades give the best performance and the lowest swing weight, with a dihedral design that lets water flow evenly over the blade. Combined with an asymmetrical shape, this creates a nice smooth movement through the water. We have demo Shuna paddles in-store for you to try on the canal, so you can feel it for yourself!
Werners straight shafts are traditional, light weight, less expensive and allow a paddler to move their hands along the shaft in a predictable manner with a straight and continuous grip area. If a paddler can maintain a natural wrist alignment by lightly loosening the outer fingers of the non-control hand during a stroke(think “OK” symbol) they can reduce wrist fatigue. If your paddling style allows for a loose grip and you do not paddle in rough water conditions, save some paddle weight and some money and purchase one of the straight shaft paddles.
Bent shaft aligns your wrists in a more ergonomic position to reduce fatigue while grasping the shaft for the confidence of full hand contact. Proper ergonomic hand, wrist and forearm position alleviates stress and strain and the potential for injury. A loose grip also promotes ergonomics, along with better overall technique, and some paddlers want the confidence of knowing if they do over grip due to habit or advanced conditions they are protected. This is especially important to those with pre-existing injuries. Taking design a step further, we innovated "Neutral Bent." We achieve this by lining up all parts of the paddle in one straight line. The blades, the grip area and the ferrule. This allows for the familiar feel of a straight shaft paddle, making finesse strokes and rolling much easier and allowing for a seamless transition for those switching from straight to bent. Further attention to detail went into our indexing. We tested to best fit the hand, give secure full hand contact, better control and comfort even with a loose grip. Bent shaft has a slight penalty in weight and cost, but the trade off is the confidence in knowing you are protecting your body for the longevity of your paddling.
